Obituary: Joanne Matthews

With great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Joanne Matthews. She passed away at home in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Oct. 11, 2026, at the age of 76. She was a devoted daughter, loyal sister and a proud mother and grandmother.

Joanne was born June 29, 1950, in North Conway, N.H., the youngest of four children. She grew up in Fryeburg, Maine, attending local schools. She helped at her family-owned Blacksmith Coffee Shop throughout her teen years. Joanne graduated from Fryeburg Academy, Class of 1968. She went on to attend the Portland School of Art.
