Poetry winners announced
The librarys sixth annual poetry contest had more than 80 entrants. The stiffest competition was in three of the six age categories: adult, age 8-10 and age 6 & 7. The winners in each category are as follows:Adult (over 18): 1st place Lauren Tivey, and runner-up Beverly Stanier.Age 14-18 1st place Jason Sellers, and runner up Kackie Saunders.Age 11-13 1st place Noah McLeavey-Weber, and runner-up Jason Upson.Age 8-10 1st place Daniel Rollnick, and runner-up Daniel Shea.Age 6 & 7 1st place Ian Shea, and runner-up Nisha Kondrat.Age 5 & under 1st place Mary Shea.Judges Marnie Cobbs and David Emerson also chose 31 poems for honorable mention. These will be included in the collection of winners for 2002, which will be catalogued and available for circulation from the library.Honorable mentions were awarded to the following: adults, Albert Eaton, Nancy Sheridan, Jonathan Goodwin, Jane Hartnett, Mark Hounsell, Marguerite Witkop, Leslie Snow, Diana McLellan, Ron Weir, Donna Richardson, Trudy Cohen, Alan Smith, Carl Quimby, Elizabeth Irwin, Mary Meier and D. A. Martin; age 14-18, Temple Bragg; age 11-13, Oliver Bragg, Alesis Bragg and Dani Hill; age 8-10, Jordan Cargill, Olivia Bragg, Courtney Chase, Staci Poitras, Tegan Carter, Megan Feddern and Nick Marone; age 6&7, Abby Miller, Eric Shea, Thomas Gregston and Forest Andrews.Prizes were awarded and winning poems read aloud at a party on Wednesday, May 1, at the library. Prizes were donated by White Birch Books, McSherrys Nursery, The Sound Resort, Bye the Book, the Chinook Caf, Aubuchon Hardware and the Conway Public Library.Congratulations to the winners and thank you, everyone who entered the sixth annual poetry contest for all ages!Books for NH Humanities Discussion Still AvailableThe first in a series of four book discussions will take place here at the library on Wednesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. "Under the Sea-Wind," by Rachel Carson, presents a naturalist's picture of ocean life. This book is her breathtaking canvas of the fierce, competitive struggle for life that takes place along the shore, in the open sea, and along the sea bottom. The discussion will be facilitated by Mark Long of Keene State College. Copies of the book are still available.Dont forget: Really Spring Story Times begin May 7.
