John K. DeLong Jr., 83, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Wood River Village, Bensalem, Penn, where he has been a resident since 2000.Born in Bristol, Penn. he resided there most of his life. Mr. DeLong graduated from Bristol High School, class of 1942 and was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran, surviving the Battle of Iwo Jima and honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed for 39 years at Rohm & Haas Co. and traveled worldwide representing their corporate engineering department. He was a member of Bristol Boro School Board for eight years, serving two terms as president, a member of the Bucks County Technical school board for eight years, serving as chairman for one term. Mr. DeLong served on the Bristol Boro recreation board and was a manager for Bristol Boro Little League. He was also a member of The Golden Marks, where he served as treasurer, the Marine Corp League, the V.F.W., John F. Billington Post, Levittown, the American Legion and the Bristol Moose. In his retirement, he was a Judge of Elections in Bristol Boro East Ward and worked in security at Mill Run.Husband of the late Margaret (nee Kane) DeLong, he is survived by his three children, John DeLong and his wife, Peggy, of Tamworth, Dave DeLong and Dawn Higgins, of Bristol, Penn, and Leslie DeLong and Kevin, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Donald DeLong, of Florida; one sister, Betty McCready, of Bristol; one daughter-in-law, Caroline DeLong, of Bristol; and one son-in-law, Charles Gindele, of California; his personal care provider and best friend, Debbie Cohen; along with several nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bristol High School, Wilson Ave., Bristol, PA. 19007.
