J. Wilson Myers, 79 of Tamworth, died Saturday, July 19 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was born April 10, 1924 in Jackson, Mich. to Joseph and Agnes Myers. He married Eleanor Cope Emlen of Germantown, Pa. in 1948. He was a member of Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and attended Germantown Friends School, Haverford College and Cornell University. He received a doctorate degree in English literature from University of California at Berkeley in 1964. He joined the humanities department at Michigan State University in 1965, where he was a faculty member until his retirement in 1984. In 1973, following a 14-month family sabbatical in Europe and North Africa, he and his wife Ellie undertook a partnership in archeaological field work, conducting low altitude aerial surveys in the Mediterranean. Their work spanned over 20 consecutive years of field work. Together they produced "Aerial Atlas of Ancient Crete," published in 1992 by Thames and Hudson Ltd. and University of California Press. He is survived by his brother Stanley; sons, Emlen of Bethesda, Md., Arthur of Grand Ledge, Mich. and David of Brookline; and grandchildren, Sam, David, Heather, Alex, Eliza, Jake and Rachel. A memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at North Sandwich Friends Meeting. Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home in Brookline is in charge of arrangements.
