By Joseph DellaValla, special to The Conway Daily Sun

When I first met Dody Coman, I was barely tall enough to peer over the edge of a piano bench in the community room at the Merriman House nursing home. Dody was the director of activities, the one with the bright smile and a voice that could coax even the grumpiest resident (or toddler) into tapping a toe. I was only about 4 years old, toddling alongside my sister, my mom carrying my brother still in diapers, as we played “balloon toss” and sang songs together.
