Over 400 spectators attended the Fourth Annual Antique Auto Show in Fryeburg, Maine, on June 17. This event, a fund raiser for the Rotary Club of the Fryeburg Area, featured over 80 cars and motorcycles exhibiting in 16 different classes. New this year was the Peoples Choice Award, which proved very popular among the spectators. Russ Boisvert of Gray, Maine, took that award for his 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396, which also took first place in his class.Best in Show was the 1960 Ford F-100 Custom truck of A.J. DaSilva of North Conway, whose trophy and $100 award were sponsored by Dens Automotive of Fryeburg.First place winners were:Prewar: Audrey and Bill Haworth 1946-1954 cars: Ron Turner1955-1959 cars: Vic and Claire Berube1960-1964 cars: Phil Brooks1965-1968 cars: Sid Potter1969-1972 cars: Russ Boisevert1973-1979 cars: Don and Joan SampheyForeign cars: P.M.ForteStreet Rods to 1934: Dennis BelangerStreet Rods 1935-1948: Ronald SheaffStock Trucks to 1954: Robert ParkerStock Trucks 1955-present: Jim PorterStreet Rod Trucks: A.J. Other donations included two $25 gas cards from Norway Bank, gift certificates from Sharons Seafood & More and Fryes Tavern, lift tickets from Cranmore, and a free 20-gallon propane refill from Traffords RV. Several Rotarians donated prizes as well, including a car care kit and several $25 gas cards. Given the price of gas these days, we thought the gas cards would be a helpful prize for the exhibitors, said Judith Towne of the Rotary Club. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and donors who really help make the show a success by their generosity. The funds we raise here support disaster relief both nationally and internationally, water projects in third-world countries, and literacy projects. For example, every year our club donates a dictionary to each sixth-grade student at Molly Ockett School in Fryeburg."Trophy sponsors were Ds Pizza, B&B Performance (Carquest), B&C Collision, State Farm Insurance, Lakeside Podiatry, Hastings Law Office, Saco River Canoe and Kayak, Green Thumb Farms and Saco Valley Sports Center, all of Fryeburg; Rogers Tunes, East Conway Self Storage, and Heritage Services of East Conway; MGB Video of Chatham; Saco Valley Canoe of Center Conway; and North Conway Ambulance and Northern Building Supply of North Conway. For more information on the Rotary Club, please go to www.fryeburgarearotary.org.
