After spending four years in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to New Hampshire and pursued a career in law enforcement, which he enjoyed for 24 years. During that time Loomis was the police chief for the communities of Rye, Newington and most recently, Ossipee. He also served as an adjunct professor at the New Hampshire Police Academy teaching verbal communication skills to police recruits, and he was one of the founding board members of Carroll County Big Brother/Big Sisters.
