April marks the beginning of spring, as most of us around here think of the season. The first day of the month is also notable as April Fool's Day. The day of pranks and practical jokes, and one of my daughter Erin’s favorite days, has been celebrated for centuries by different cultures, though it’s exact origins remain a mystery, according to history.com.
April 1 is also the day, in 1970, that the now-defunct American Motors Corp. introduced the Gremlin. The average reader might conclude that AMC had a great sense of humor, or perhaps was a master of marketing, but history will judge the Gremlin as a ground-breaking idea or at least, a reasonable effort, regardless of the current general consensus of the common classic car enthusiast.
