To The Editor:

The Maine Legislature, under Democratic majority and majority rule, voted in favor of expanded ranked-choice voting (RCV) one month ago, via L.D. 1666, to void and circumvent the Constitution’s “plurality” requirement. The Legislature advanced a bill to expand ranked-choice voting to gubernatorial and to legislative elections. Also, lawmakers did pass an order requesting the Law Court to advise on whether or not the bill aligns with the state constitution. However, the Supreme Court had previously ruled that ranked-choice voting was unconstitutional.
