Conway Janet M. HounsellCarol and Mildred Hager of West Main Street were given a lovely 50th wedding anniversary party by daughters Barbara Sylvester of Conway and Susan Bolton of Plymouth at their home last Sunday. The couple, married by a Methodist minister in Portland, Maine, on Feb. 23, 1952, renewed their wedding vows, with retired pastor John Aron officiating.Son Richard Penna, and his wife Alicia of Marlborough were present, along with about 50 other relatives and close friends. There are seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchilden on the family tree! By all accounts, Mildred and Carl had a lovely and well-deserved day.Conway native Marshall Allard, we just learned, moved in December of last year. Not far, mind you, for Marshall's compact new home sits close to the trailer he called home for many decades on his lot at the far Conway border of West Main Street Extension.Among those who had a part in the work were "Bernie" Quint and Jeff Densmore and his son, Josh. The comfortable post and beam home, with exposed beams and other framework, is light and well insulated. Marshall has a nice view and enjoys his choice between a fireplace and wood stove for comfort. Last week, I wrote here of the upcoming annual daffodil sales, if you remember. I inadvertently implied that the Mountain Garden Club, along with the American Cancer Society, was to benefit from the local sales. Not so. Sorry. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, although the garden club is giving the charity its full push and support. The order deadline has been extended from March 1 to March 14. Don't miss out on this good benefit and the lovely daffodils. Call Ann at 356- 8617 for particulars.Brenda (nee Hounsell) and Frank Sullivan of Cape Cod, and Wellesley, Mass., visited her uncles, Ted Hounsell of Towle Road and Carl (Berk) Hounsell on the Kancamagus Highway and their families last Sunday. The couple had been spending some time visiting friends in North Conway. A program billed as "An Afternoon of classical Music," sponsored by the Conway Historical Society, will take place on March 3, at 1:30 p.m. It will be performed in the society's newly acquired building, the former St. Charles Catholic Church at 110 Main Street, Conway Village.I will not list the prestigious performers scheduled to take part here, but be assured their training, experience and credentials make them an impressive group! Call 447-5551 if you'd like more particulars. The Conway Historical Society asks that those with extra, sturdy coffee mugs consider contributing them to the society. In addition, when you start Spring Cleaning, remember that the society is most happy to receive contributions to its annual yard sale. One man's or woman's trash is another's treasure, so if you've items of nearly any kind to donate, contact Executive Director David Emerson at 447-5395, Jeannette Blake at 447-5666, or society president Susan Proctor. They can arrange for appointments to drop off contributions.Contributions are welcomed here. Reach Janet at 447-2787, E-mail her at janethounsell@juno.com, or drop her a note at P.O. Box 374, Conway, NH 01818.
