February Vacation week is all over. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. I know that Shalaun couldn't wait to go back to school even though she was very busy this past week.I received a call from Jackson/Bartlett Food Pantry wanting to say thank you to the two third grade classes of Don Muldey and Jackie Hamblet. The third grade classes raised food for the pantry to learn how to help out the community. What a wonderful way to teach children that sometimes other people need a little help now and then.Linda Tsoules also wanted me to mention that she is a certified Doula with the Doulas of North America. A Doula is a birth and labor assistant. She helps with home and hospital deliveries. She had a whole lot of information on her fascinating job and if you are interested in her services, please give her a call at 356-9255. This past Saturday marked the third Union Congregational Church supper. We have one more to go this coming Saturday. Even with the weather we had close to 100 guests. We have had lots of people show up for the dinners and lots of volunteers to help prepare and serve the food. And let's not forget the dishwashers! Also this weekend the Girl Scouts are selling their cookies on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Patch's Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you would like to preorder cookies, please call 383-0846 or send an e-mail to deb_ains@hotmail.com. Cookies are $3.50 per box. So order soon and order many! You can always freeze them, which is always my intentions when I order them, but somehow they never make it to the freezer! The troop is still looking for leaders. If you are interested in volunteering or just interested in more information, you can browse the Web site for the local council Swift Water at www.swgirlscouts.org or call 1-800-654-1270. The Girl Scouts provide training for leaders, you don't need to be experienced just willing to donate your time and help the girls grow. This coming Thursday there is going to be a meeting in the gym of the elementary school to discuss if snow machines will be allowed on the railroad tracks from Glen to Bear Notch Road. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and I, for one, am going, because the tracks run right in back of my house. Some upcoming events for the Winter Carnival in Bartlett are Saturday, Feb. 28, the Budweiser All-Star aerial Show at Attitash. Shows are at noon and 6 p.m. Following this there will be fireworks! Then, on Sunday, Feb. 29, another Budweiser All-Star aerial show at noon.I haven't spoken directly with Shawn, but from what Cathie has told me, he graduated from his intensive training with the Marines (even though he is in the Navy) to become the "first line of defense" where his is stationed with a score of 97! Way to go Shawn! Now for the next set of training.....The biggest news of this past week is that Barbie and Ken have broken up after 40 years! Can you imagine Barbie without Ken? Don't forget that this is the year for Leap year so February will have 29 days! That will do it for this week. Please give me a call if you have any information that you would like printed in the column!
