One of my joys of visiting Martha's Vineyard during Thanksgiving weeks of the past was observing sharply pointed northern gannets off Gay Head plummeting into the sea. These large, heavy-bodied seabirds are very streamlined with a long slender body that's simply elegant.

Its form projects equally in front of and behind long relatively narrow wings. The northern gannets' body is all white except for a golden wash over the head. The spectacular bird has all-black outer wing tips for contrast. The gannet's deep-based conical, longish bill is silvery and facial skin is black with a blue eye. The feet are blackish if we could see them.
