Fryeburg Academy junior Eden True came oh-so-close to extending the Raiders’ lead late in Friday’s Class B South playoff match against Gray-New Gloucester. She drew the save of the day from Patriots’ goalie Valerie Farrar, a sophomore, after winning a footrace against defender Molly Bryant to a long pass. FRYEBURG — With blistering speed the Fryeburg Academy girls’ soccer team dismantled Gray-New Gloucester’s offside trap to earn a well-deserved 4-2 Class B South playoff victory in Atwood Stadium on Friday.
For the Raiders, this victory not only marked a decisive return to postseason play for the first time in eight years, but also showcased the culture shift instilled by Coach Dave Hart, now in his fourth season. Hart, with the support of former assistant coaches Jacki Buzzell and Stevi Laird, has built a program that drew a record 56 players this fall, embodying a team-focused spirit.
