CONWAY — A total of 21 candidates for state and local office took part in last Thursday’s Five-Minute Forum at the Gibson Center for Senior Services in North Conway, and several opened up their private lives with surprisingly touching stories of what led them to seek public office. For Luz Bay, it was beating cancer three times. For Joe Kenney, it was using his Marine background to help veterans.

Below is a sampling of the candidates’ stories.
