Happy spring everyone! Usually for the first day of spring, I would celebrate by going for a bike ride or a long run. This year I went for a ruck, a long walk with a weighted backpack. The walk was 15 miles and the pack weighed about 18 pounds. The weather didn’t feel very spring-like, cold enough that the hose to my camelback froze. I was out there long enough that it actually defrosted again.

The birds seemed to have read the calendar as I saw robins, chickadees and a huge pileated woodpecker. I’m once again doing a 26.2-mile ruck in April to honor and in memory of our fallen service members, police, firefighters and EMTs, while raising funds to support military families in times of need. This will be my 29th marathon. I’m now thinking, where should I go for my 30th? It should be somewhere special and, of course, fun!
