Great Falls. (ED PARSONS PHOTO)

“Every day the leaves are bigger,” I said to my friend one morning this week. It is an amazing time of year. The leaves are pastel green. Those who are out of touch with the natural world for whatever reason, I highly recommend you get outside in the woods now, at least for part of a day or the evening, which is one of the best times.

This is a brief column on contrasting beauty in the natural world: First a walk along a river to a waterfall, and then hiking a small mountain. We saw that the essence of beauty in both places was the same, but how it manifested in the landscape was different.
