Now is the time, before the trout season starts to heat up, to get out on the lawn and do some practice casting. It has been a long winter and it is time to tune up the casting stroke and limber up the arm. Lawn casting is the fly fishermen’s equivalent of going out in the yard and playing catch with your dad. The fact is that it never hurts to do a little practicing and it is surprising how few do. Think of it as going out to the driving range and hitting a few drives.

Along the same line, it never hurts to take a lesson or two from a real pro; another thing that golfers do. If nothing else you might want to check out a couple of YouTube videos on the subject. The Orvis website has some good ones that are worth taking a look at.
