This year’s opening day of trout pond season was like no other in my lifetime. The overwhelming difference was, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic.

At no other time in recent history has the United States faced a crises of this magnitude. I am old enough to remember the polio scare of the 1950s and my grandmother was a survivor of the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic, but nothing like this has threatened the well-being of our country in a very long time. The virus has affected every aspect of our lives for the last three month, and it effected this year’s opening day of trout season.
