North Country Angling - wild brook trout

For a significant portion of this angler’s life, pursuing brook trout meant getting to wild places. Like it was yesterday, the fishing trip into the wilds of Quebec where my dad, my uncle and I caught over 100 brook trout in an afternoon on a remote pond that was known by the number on the utility pole.

Before the internet, attending fishing shows during the winter and collecting brochures for places that were wild was a thing. Slide shows with pictures of brook trout measured in pounds, not inches, danced through this young angler’s head.
