The days of picking up a 5/6 weight 8-foot fiberglass fly rod and putting a six weight double taper fly line on a click and pawl reel have long since passed.

Apart from the nostalgia fly angler, the majority of fly rods today are designated for a single weight fly line and made with some type of composite graphite. Yes, even fly-fishing technology has taken hold. With each $100 increase in fly rod price comes a corresponding increase in the technology associated with the fly rod.
