8-25-2023 Biking-Bike share programs

Bike share programs, like Bluebikes in Boston, are increasing in number across the country. (MARTY BASCH PHOTO)

Cyclists can become obsessed with numbers. Calculating mileage, speed, heart rate, cadence, elevation and more make it seem that Pelotons or riders are afflicted with counting compulsions. That said, there are a wealth of statistics and numbers out there in the cycling world that can prove far less self-indulgent.

Traveling valley cyclists might notice the change in the number of bike share and electric scooter programs, aka micromobility systems, available in cities across the country. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports less than 80 U.S. cities had them in 2015. Now more than 200 cities have them.
