Local high school mountain bike team seasons are short, from early September to October’s end. Coaches have to fit in quality practices around weekly meets. By visiting different Mount Washington Valley trail systems, coaches keep training interesting while building skills.
Monday, I met Fryeburg Academy’s mountain bike team at the Marshall’s Conservation Area in Conway. The Raiders practice there often on Mondays. On Tuesdays, they usually ride East Bear Paw trails. Wednesdays and, occasional Saturdays, are meet days. Thursdays, they train with the FA strength and conditioning coach. Fridays, they typically ride the Hurricane system.
