Friday was a bright and sunny day, though it started cold. Inspired, I concocted a gravel ride adventure. Madison was my target area. It was close to home, had miles of gravel roads, and had many points of scenic and historic interest. What better way to see those than on my bicycle?

I got out my N.H. Gazetteer and a United States Geological Survey map of the Silver Lake area. A Madison Conservation Commission map, “Hiking Trail Locations in Madison, N.H.” completed my route-finding package.
