An unusual name can add mystery to a landscape. Have you ever hiked the Crippies? These are four small bumps located along the 20-mile Montalban Ridge. According to the AMC White Mountain Guide, how these small summits were named is one of the mysteries of the White Mountains.

The Montalban Ridge extends north from Bartlett to Boott Spur, a shoulder of Mount Washington. The Crippies are located about 3 miles along the ridge above Bartlett on the Mount Stanton Trail, between Mount Pickering and Mount Langdon. This section of the Montalban Ridge is lightly traveled, and remains so until it meets the Davis Path further up the ridge.
