Due to rising costs, injuries, excessive noise that disrupts wildlife (and dogs) and the popularity of drone shows in major cities, traditional fireworks displays are in decline. Meanwhile, Conway officials last year reversed their plan to hold fireworks on the weekend following July 4 after the public complained. The board signed a three-year contract with Pyrotecnico for $54,000 to launch on July 4. In North Conway on Thursday, a massive crowd of visitors was treated to a shortened display due to technical issues.

This week’s TeleTalk question is: To celebrate July 4, should the town continue with a traditional fireworks display or come up with an alternative?
