Carroll County commissioners on Oct. 6 accepted county ownership once again of the approximately 11,000-square-foot old Carroll County Courthouse in Ossipee, which was built in 1916. It was given back to the county by the Ossipee Historical Society, which bought it for $1 in 2004. Commissioner Matt Plache said it’s a beautiful building, “and we’ll be figuring out what to do” with it. Ideas have included office space, but commissioners said it makes more sense to use the old county nursing home annex for that. Director of Maintenance Bob Murray said for its age, the building is “in impressively good shape.” On Oct. 20, the N.H. Preservation Alliance put it on its “Seven to Save” list, saying, “Commissioners hope to find a creative and sympathetic new use for the courthouse.”

This week’s Tele-talk question: What should the county do with the old courthouse building?
