A local man pulled a stunt last month when he set a dumpster on fire to create a video to share on TikTok. He was charged with felony arson. While research shows about one-third of young people get their news through TikTok, experts say the phone app encourages bad behavior and is addictive by design. Perhaps more important, TikTok is considered a security threat because it is owned by the Chinese. President Joe Biden this spring signed a bill that requires TikTok to divest its U.S. operations or be banned within nine months.
