Pig scrambles have been a popular feature of the Fryeburg Fair for decades. Four scrambles are held over the course of the eight-day fair, and they always attract crowds to watch kids chase piglets around the pulling ring and put them in burlap sacks when they catch them. While some people see the event as wholesome farm-oriented fun (the young winners can take the animals home and raise them, perhaps joining 4-H programs and learning about agriculture), others see it as blatant animal cruelty, wrenching baby animals from their mothers and terrorizing them in the bargain.

This week’s Tele-Talk Question: Is it time to end the pig scrambles at the Fryeburg Fair?
