The Carroll County legislative delegation’s executive committee voted on April 3 to dramatically increase many administrative salaries beginning in 2027, after the next election. Under the new pay scale, the county attorney will earn $135,000, the sheriff $133,000 and the register of deeds $131,000 — increases ranging from about 19 percent to roughly 60 percent depending on the position. Those salaries, for example, are significantly higher than in Belknap County, which has similar demographics and economy to Carroll County. Its registry of deeds earns $75,257.

This week's Tele-Talk question is: Do you think the new raises for elected county officials are excessive?
