Conway selectmen Tuesday approved a warrant article for a $5 fee to be tacked onto automobile registrations in order to fund local road reconstruction projects. The estimated $63,000 to be raised annually by the fee would go into a capital reserve fund for transportation projects. Antique cars, motorcycles, ATVs and snowmobiles would be exempt. In discussing the warrant article, Selectman John Colbath said he would support the fee but would cut the 2021 capital budget by the amount raised from the fee so residents wouldn’t be double taxed.

This week’s Tele-Talk question: Do you support adding a $5 fee to car registrations to pay for road work, or do you think the money should be raised by general taxation?
