If the Conway recreation department moves to Kennett Middle School, it would not preclude sixth-graders from John H. Fuller, Conway Elementary and Pine Tree schools from going there, too, creating a 6-8-grade middle school. So said School Superintendent Kevin Richard at a recent town budget meeting. “There is enough space to accommodate the sixth grade at Kennett Middle School,” Richard said, while adding that some classrooms and the "education delivery model' would have to be reconfigured. School board members say that while it may make sense educationally to have a 6-8 middle school, it is cost-prohibitive because of tuition contracts with sending towns. Conway would lose roughly $288,000 in revenue per year over the next six years of the agreement. On the flip side, some see this as a path to closing an elementary school and realizing further savings.
