To the editor:The Effingham Public Library recently wrapped up the 2006 summer reading program, "Treasure Reading." Twenty-two children participated, one more than last year. Participants are to be commended for their commitment to reading each week. We were able to offer a combination of professional performances, family movie events, pirate-themed craft projects and story times. At the wrap-up party on August 5, all participants received certificates and prizes, and enjoyed juice and a pirate cake.Library staff would like to extend special thanks to the following sponsors of our summer reading program: Pirate's Cove in North Conway, McDonald's of West Ossipee, Route 126 Dairy Bar of Ossipee, the Friends of the Effingham Library, the Effingham Historical Society, the N.H. State Library, the Byrne Foundation, CHILIs, and the Cogswell Benevolent Trust. In addition, we wish to recognize the following volunteers: Linda Dalpe for the pirate chest display, Wayne Dalpe for assistance with our movie events, Cristin Gurley for assisting with stories and crafts, Joan Sullivan and Betty Crabtree. Without their time and energy, our program would not have been so successful. Thanks also to the parents of the participating children, and to the residents of Effingham, who continue to support the library's programs.
