Lately, President Donald Trump has been claiming election fraud in liberal California because they are taking about a week to certify their recent election. Trump complains about election fraud when he loses an election but there is, apparently, no fraud when he wins.
So when California—home of the nation's most creative ballot harvesting, same-day registration experiments, and "find me some more votes" energy—takes a leisurely week to "certify" results, we're all supposed to just trust the process and shut up? But when Trump cruised to victory in 2024 with a massive turnout and fewer of the usual statistical miracles in urban machine precincts, that was obviously clean as a whistle. Got it.
The same crowd that spent years calling 2016 "Russian collusion," 2020 "the most secure election in history" (while fighting every audit and observer request tooth and nail), and every Republican win "threat to democracy" is now clutching pearls because Trump notices when blue strongholds drag their feet counting votes until the desired outcome materializes. How shocking.Funny how "election denial" is only a moral crisis when it comes from the right. When Hillary called Trump illegitimate, when Stacey Abrams played that game for years, when Democrats sued, protested, and invented novel legal theories to stop certification in 2020—it was just "protecting democracy."
Now it's a clown car for noticing the same pattern in reverse. Common sense didn't take a detour. It simply refuses to ride in the "trust us, bro, especially when we're losing" bus anymore.
