To the editor:Three years ago when my wife and I moved our family to Madison many things took into account as to where we would live. One of the biggest influences was the school system, as we have two young children that would be starting kindergarten in the years to come. My son is now in the first grade and is excited to go to school and learn on a daily basis. The teachers have been very supportive of my child in his learning adventures. As a parent that has attended the last two school board meetings, what I have observed has really left me rather concerned due to the school boards actions during its last two meetings. At the Oct. 21 meeting, the board publicly tabled the class size issue in order to study it further." Then, five days later, four board members met to discuss the budget and after one of the members was called away on school board business, the remaining three members voted to cut the budget by three teachers and one day of PE. This was done without a full board present, without the superintendent, with absolutely no public discussion, and with no public comments allowed.I am concerned that the school board has been making rash decisions regarding class sizes, additional down sizing of teachers, and eliminating more physical education time. The school board has given no valid reasons for changing any one of the three issues previously mentioned and it is my hope is that the town will get involved and demand answers with valid reasons and/or research to back up the decisions that are being made.
