To the editor:

In the month of November Jackie Howe made a mistake.  That mistake is costing her far more than is equitable or fair. Jackie is a kind and honest person who has devoted 38 years of her life to her vocation. The Vaughan board has forced her, through an impetuous decision, to separate from the work she loves.  My visceral response was to blame the board and be angry with them for what appears to be a mean spirited, self-serving decision. Comments about crumbling cookies and firing three star generals fueled my anger as it did others. Jackie isn't a cookie, and certainly not a tough one, and I am sure she has no aspirations to be a general or to be compared to one. North Conway Day Care isn't "This Man's Army" and the business at hand at the North Conway Day Care is the teaching and safe care of the valley's youngest community members. Jackie excels as the head of the day care center and our community came out Sunday morning in huge numbers to give testimony to how important she is to our most precious resource, our children.
