In June of 2003, our favorite millennial graduated from Pine Tree School, bringing home the principal's award. That September, we were faced with enrolling her in Kennett Junior High School, which was still kind of a mess even after a couple of years under a better principal, but we were hardly flush enough to afford tuition at a private school.

Instead, we homeschooled her through those two years, double-teaming her so as to cover all the academic disciplines between our respective areas of expertise. In 2005, we sent her to Kennett High School strong in math and science, with a good start in French, and with more than the usual freshman's exposure to history and literature.

Oh Bill, there you go again using facts, logic, reason, and a touch of experiential wisdom. All of which is kryptonite to those who would decry the perils of a private vs. public education.

I think it is clear to any thinking adult that the public education machine has become nothing more than a huge employment agency whose chief concern is to perpetuate a very specific agenda and a continuous source of financial support to one particular political party.

How is it that this goliath of a machine can be so politically influential, a fiscal powerhouse, with ever-increasing membership while producing some of the worst results in the history of public education?

Shall we revisit their leadership's appalling behavior during the pandemic?

It's way past time for us to pivot and support private education, acknowledge the superior results, and stop thinking of it as an elitist construct. You'd think the Party that cares so much about "the children" would stand behind and fully support alternate forms of education considering the outcomes.
