At a recent meeting between the Conway Budget Committee and school administrators, school board representative Mike DiGregorio finally said something that I agree with. It might be more accurate, perhaps, to say that he expressed his own agreement with something I've been harping on. Given my observations of Mike and the school board over many years, I don't think it portends any political detente between us, but the common issue is worth discussing.

We were talking about early education in reading, and Mike remarked how important he deems the first three years of school for teaching that skill, and how much he would like to enhance instruction on that subject in the lower grades. He even tried to challenge one budget committee member to support additional reading resources, which is school board code for hiring more employees.
