David Shribman

The distinguished historian David Herbert Donald once tried to prompt John F. Kennedy to evaluate the performances of his predecessors. “No one has a right to grade a president — not even poor James Buchanan — who has not sat in his chair, examined the mail and information that came across his desk, and learned why he made decisions,” Kennedy said in a 1962 conversation.

Nancy Gibbs, author of more cover stories than any other Time writer, tried the question on George W. Bush, asking him whether as president he thought more or less highly of the presidents who served before him.

What a fantastic anti-Trump column. The premise is that Trump is a cad because he strongly criticized (belittled) his predecessor, which is simply unheard of in modern Presidential history.

This journalist knows well that politics during the early founding of our country was much rougher than it has recently been. So again, another example of Liberal bias infecting our so-called journalists.

But the real story here is how Shribman attacks Trump for his criticisms while ignoring the obvious fact (which one day will be confirmed by real historians) that President Joe Biden was by far the worst President we have ever had.

Biden was annointed by the Democrats during Covid because the party didn't want a Far Leftist to be the nominee. Bernie Sanders was cruising along and they knew the country would have a hard time electing a Socialist. So they hid Biden's mental decline from the public through the Biden Basement strategy, all the while claiming that Biden was fit to be President.

They also ignored the known corruption of the Biden family. President Obama had been alerted to this during his term yet he chose to allow Biden to enter the Democrat primary without saying boo. Shame on him.

Once Biden got in, he moved to the Far Left, helping to normalize the positions that are now mainstream in the Democratic Party: Open borders; no real penalties for committing criminal acts; giving more rights to "trans" people than to girls and women; and federal spending through the roof. The Left's war on fossil fuels and the spending created massive inflation and lowered our standard of living. If that wasn't enough, Biden allowed the federal bureaucracy to start issuing regulations to make our lives worse, like trying to phase our gasoline engines.

Biden then continued his basement strategy as his cognitive functions continued to decline, while his aides and the media proclaimed him fit as a fiddle. Don't let your lying eyes deceive you! Biden runs rings around his staff in private.

Biden allowed the justice department, working with local prosecutors, to go after his political opponent, unlike we have ever seen in America.

Biden and his aides instructed social media companies to ban conservative websites and comments. Former administration officials falsely claimed that Hunter Biden's laptop was Russian disinformation, even while the FBI had the laptop and had verified Hunter's ownership. Why this lie was allowed to stand during the 2020 election is still a mystery. Perhaps Bill Barr could explain it to us.

Then during the 2024 campaign, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and the Democrat's machine called Donald Trump a felon, a Nazi, and a threat to Democracy itself. If they couldn't take Trump off the ballot, if they couldn't put him in jail, if they couldn't bankrupt him, they would assassinate his character. This was a daily occurrence.

Now that Trump survived an actual assassination attempt and has been re-elected, what Biden did to him for four years is absolutely fair game. I'm sorry that the author has lost his perspective, but any fair analysis would conclude that it is payback time.
