In a recent Conway Daily Sun column, District 7 Rep. Glenn Cordelli (Tuftonboro, Ossipee, Wolfeboro) attempted to set the record straight about some of his legislative history. His claims about caring for the health and education of N.H. children, however, ring hollow when you examine his voting record. In fact, when you dig a little deeper, the entire Republican Carroll County representatives’ voting history is in line with Cordelli’s, most especially when it comes to public education and its associated issues.
Despite numerous letters to the editor and news articles about the alarming budgetary flaws and lack of accountability with the education voucher program, including a recent InDepthNH report about errors found in 25 percent of its applications, Cordelli and other Republicans consistently vote to expand income eligibility for a program that has mostly serves students who have never attended public school.
Ms. Fudge is a well-informed advocate for the Left's version of education. Her partisanship is clearly evident throughout the letter, and she uses some of the "new tools" of the Left to try to label her political opponents as racists and Nazis. Funny how much of that racist past was perpetuated by her very own party. Too bad she didn't provide a self-flagellation link in her email.
She does admit that the Republicans tend to vote as a group, just as the Democrats do. So when you look at these public-policy issues, you have to hear both sides to really understand the issue. I read Rep. Cordelli's recent letter and it was enlightening, despite the one curious sentence pointed out by another reader.
The fundamental issue reflects national divisions in perspective. The Right wants taxpayer funding to be frugally administered and doesn't want to penalize children who do not attend public school, and the Left wants more funding "ad infinitum" to support the goals and partisanship of the teachers' unions.
But when you look at actual evidence, the story is much more mixed. Take a look at all the funding and freebies that the major cities give to public education and you will also see mostly failing schools and wasted taxpayer dollars. Whatever the issues are that produce such poor outcomes, they aren't about funding.
For 50 years, the Democrats have been championing school funding and all their societal problems have gotten worse, they say. Is it because of their evil, racist opponents who don't care about kids, or is it about their failing ideology which does not produce positive results?
In Massachusetts, the Left is now trying to eliminate the MCAS graduation requirement. They do not want accountability for students or teachers, they just want more and more of your dollars.
You make me laugh G. "The Right wants taxpayer funding to be frugally administered and doesn't want to penalize children who do not attend public school"? Followed by more drivel about how the evil Left just wants all your money?
Wrong on point one, and lying on point two.
The Right doesn't care about the taxpayer, they're trying to control what kids can be taught, what books they can read, and trying to make sure that no one different than them has a voice or is given any consideration.
The Left, while certainly spending money, is trying to make sure education is inclusive of both people and facts, two things the Right is terrified of.
It is asinine to act like the Left has completely gotten control of education. Look at what's happening here in NH, with lunatics raiding the state coffers that should be funding public schools so kids can go to private schools, and even trying to allow direct payments to religious schools, many of whom are exclusive in who they allow in, really exclusive about what they teach, and actually ARE attempting to brainwash/groom students with their religious beliefs.
It's just another example of the Right's double standards; it's okay for religious people to try to brainwash our kids because the Right agrees with them, but when someone attempts to make them aware of the true history of our country, and of all the types of people that are different, the Right screams about "grooming".
Also, the writer of the letter didn't attempt to label her opponents Nazis or racists, she correctly pointed out that the Nazis were influenced by our racist history, and that history is one of the pieces that the idiotic law forbidding teachers to teach the facts was supported by Cordelli, McConkey and all the other MAGA cult members.
You seem to scan letters to find topics that you can then launch your list of MAGA lies about, without actually really reading the letters.
If anything Cordelli writes is enlightening, you've got serious ignorance issues.
