To the editor:There are five valley residents who will be returning to Honduras on a medical and dental mission for 10 days at the end of February. Our group includes four physicians, six nurses, an oral surgeon and 24 adults and teenagers who will be visiting seven remote villages in the mountains of northern Honduras. We will be providing the only medical and dental care the local Mayan villagers receive except when other mission groups visit them. They live a simple life of subsistence farming. Their diet consist of corn and coffee, which are the two crops they plant, cultivate, harvest and bring to market, all by hand.We wanted to offer a special thank you to the students and faculty of Kennett High School as well as many valley residents who have donated supplies for us to take on the trip. We will be packing everything up on Sunday, Feb. 18, in preparation for our departure on Feb. 24. There is still time to help out with donating supplies if you would like to be a part of our adventure. The following items would be the most helpful: Toothbrushes and small tubes of toothpaste Multivitamins (especially children's versions) Old prescription eyeglasses or any reading glasses Over-the-counter pain medicine (Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, aspirin)You can bring them to White Mountain Oral Surgery (a half-mile north of The Memorial Hospital and across the street from Northway Bank and ReMax Realty in North Conway), 3277 White Mountain Highway, North Conway (356-9755), and just leave them at the front desk. We will put all these supplies to good use.Keep us and our mission in your prayers, and thank you for your support.Mimi GerishNancy and Todd Barber
