CONWAY — Sen. Bob Smith has been involved in politics for more than four decades, but the 74-year-old Tuftonboro Republican says he's never seen a more organized campaign than the one Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is running.

"It's the best ground game I've ever seen, and that's including my own campaigns," Smith, a state campaign chair, said by phone from the Cruz bus Wednesday afternoon. "We're making thousands of phone calls, knocking on thousands of doors — it's an incredible ground game."
