The large maple at the Intervale Motel and future site of a new hotel was taken down Monday morning. Because of its beautiful fall colors the tree became a lightning rod for people who are against the hotel. It was, however, completely rotten, and was toppled over easily by an excavator. Chuck Therriaultt, owner of Can Brothers in Middleton (just south of Ossipee), said the property owners want to salvage some of the bigger pieces of the tree to make benches. (MARK GUERRINGUE VIDEO)
