OSSIPEE — Selectmen did an about-face on how to fix the intersection at Route 28 and 171, saying Monday that the state Department of Transportation convinced them a roundabout will work better than the traffic signal they had been pushing for.

Meanwhile, the family of a girl who was killed there says DOT should do more to make the intersection safe until the roundabout can be built.

The intersection is safe. We have used it thousands of times, as have many others, without incident. Drivers need to pay attention and learn who has the right of way. I've never had even a close incident at this intersection, regardless of direction of travel.
