MOUNT WASHINGTON — The highest summit temperature of the year — 67 degrees Fahrenheit — was recorded Tuesday in the midst of a nine-day heat spell, according to Dr. Eric P. Kelsey, director of research for the nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory.

That broke the old mark of 59 F. set in 1961. A record was also set on Monday of 64 F., beating the old mark of 62 degrees recorded in 2007.
