WOLFEBORO — “The Libby Museum of Natural History will remain closed for the summer of 2025. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please stay tuned for updates.”

So says a curt message posted at libbymuseum.org regarding the state’s oldest natural history museum, which shut down in 2024 due to mold, structural deterioration and obvious friction between the two entities — the board of selectmen and the non-profit Friends organization — tasked with keeping the 113-year-old museum afloat.
