Are you willing to take a dip in freezing water to support local cats and dogs? Harvest Hills Animal Shelter certainly hopes so. The shelter, located on Route 302 on the Fryeburg-Bridgton town line, will hold a unique fund raiser on Saturday, Feb. 1. "Freezin' For a Reason" a polar dip in Highland Lake in Bridgton in the hopes that there are plenty of people looking to do something a little different for a wonderful cause.According to Joan McBurney, manager of Harvest Hills, a hole will be cut in the ice for you and your friends to jump into the freezing water. Polar jumpers are asked get a minimum of $50 in pledges and contact Harvest Hills to let them know you're interested in taking part in the first annual dive for the dogs.McBurney said Soft Tubs of Maine will be on hand with hot tubs to immediately warm everyone up and there will also be a "hot" tent. "Wouldn't it be fun to sponsor a dare for your friends to dip?" McBurney said. "Perhaps your boss or coworkers... We still need business sponsors. Please help us while promoting your business. We are asking $250 per business sponsor. This will include your name on our Freezin' For a Reason sweatshirts and in all of our promotions, posters and advertising.For more information on this event, which is part of the Lake Region Winter Carnival, contact McBurney at (207) 935-4358.
