TAMWORTH — Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, will be remembered as the day a life- like bronze statue of Tamworth’s famous sled dog Chinook, was unveiled on the Tamworth History Center’s lawn. A large crowd, including children and a few dogs, gathered expectantly to see “our” famous dog immortalized in a life- sized, recumbent bronze statue, the creation of Tamworth artist Andrea Kennett and bronze sculptor Peter Dramsfeld.
Chinook is the progenitor of all the Chinook dogs, and the designated State Dog. Before the unveiling, there was a group reading of “The First Chinook,” by David Pagel. The verse book relates the life and adventures of Chinook and Arthur Walden. The sound of sled bells punctuated the reading. Tamworth History Center Executive Director Alice Posner directed four Tamworth children to unveil the statue, to cheers from the crowd. The event was described in an excellent article in The Conway Daily Sun and recorded in a WMUR segment.
