Fryeburg Academy Theater will present its 2020 One Act Festival play “Last Tuesday” on March 5 at 7 p.m. The people in Donald Margulies’ play are strangers on a train, but not to us. They are familiar figures on a Metro-North train going from Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan to New Haven — a man talking too loudly on his cell phone, a woman isolated with her Discman, another silently reading the Times, a couple coordinating their weekend’s activities. In the triviality of their lives, they are us. But something unexpected happens that jolts the audience, breaking it from the trance-like state of listening to mundane prattle to being stunned by the shock of a fantastical force. Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted.

The Pace Galleries will be presenting the opening reception for “Strong Women Move Mountains: A Women’s Art Collaborative” on Friday, March 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. Nine female artists from the Mount Washington Valley area have come together to collaborate on a large painting that speaks to women’s empowerment. This painting, along with a brooch, will be the cornerstone piece of this juried art show featuring an additional 18 female artists. This event is free and open to the public. Appetizers and cash bar will be provided by the Oxford House. Following the opening, the exhibition will be open to the public on Saturdays (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sundays (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) through Saturday, March 28.
