I hope you got in on the Effingham Elementary School parent-teacher organization’s mum-raiser, or Knute Ogren’s Reach the Beach fundraiser, which included one jar of peanut butter per donation, for kids in the Effingham Elementary School weekend food program that involves sending a small backpack of nourishment for the non-school days.

The Penny Sale for Preservation gets a head start at the Saturday bake sales on Sept. 29 and Oct. 6. Tickets are on sale for 12 for $5 and 25 for $10. Local businesses have been very generous. The drawings will be during the Effingham Preservation Society event, Arthur and Chili, on Oct. 13. At 5 p.m. there will be chilis and stews, cornbread, cider, coffee and dessert; at 6 p.m. there will be Arthur’s stories and songs; at 7 p.m. there will be a penny sale drawing (gift certificates will be mailed to winners who are not present that night). Tickets for Arthur and Chili are now on sale at Saturday morning bake sales. Space is limited. The last preservation society bake sale of the season is Oct. 6. The last Effingham Preservation Society meeting of the season is Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. New members welcomed.
