There are a vast number of opinions today of what the church is for and what the church should be like. It seems to me that sometime in the last century we have seen a major shift in the church culture as well as in the secular culture in how the church is viewed. This shift seems to have intensified in the last two to three decades. In this article I want to address the number one issue that I believe has contributed to this shift.

Jesus said in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 20 verse 28 “the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus gave us the model to follow. Jesus modeled for us the attitude we should have for life in Gen. as well as in the church. Could it be that the shift that has taken place is due to an attitude that is self-serving instead of being selfless like Jesus?
